Canada will invest 2.4 billion Canadian dollars ($1.7 billion) in the development of artificial intelligence (AI). This was reported by the press service of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
“A package worth 2.4 billion [Canadian dollars] from the upcoming 2024 budget is allocated to ensure Canada’s advantage in the field of AI,” the press release states.
Investments will be aimed at financing measures to support national sectors of the economy.
The main focus is on building computing capacity and providing access to it for Canadian researchers and technology startups, as well as the development of enterprises using AI in the agricultural and social sectors.
In addition, the government intends to establish the Canadian AI Security Institute and allocate budget funds to ensure professional retraining of personnel who may be affected by the development of artificial intelligence.
