The company has released a new list of requirements for the publication of add-ons in Google Play. The innovation aims to clean up the design of Android software from third-party elements to the extent of spam, clickbait and other similar tricks, which tend to “entice” the user to press the download button faster.

With the help of new instructions for developers, Google plans to restore order in the corporate store. Specifically, software developers will have to get rid of spam titles, which do not correspond to the actual descriptions and the use of the media or other names of new products in the design of add-ons.

The new provisions will take effect in the second half of 2021. At the same time the company has put together a strict list of requirements. They include (but are not limited to) the following items:

  • Names of additions should not be more than 30 characters long.
  • Spam words, such as “quickly,” “for free,” “download now” were forbidden
  • Discontinued use of CapsLock (except for registered brands names), division symbols, emoji
  • Discontinued indication of benefits in the form of captions “Game 1”, “Best Simulator”, etc.
  • All of the elements in the screenshots and the logo of the image must comply with reality and not deceive the user.

Google has noted that with the entry into force of the new rules, developers who have not adhered to them will lose the ability to propose additions. Failure to comply with any of these paragraphs may block the way to the store’s main page or to the section recommendations.
