A major South Korean shipbuilding company Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, specializing in naval vessels’ production, was hacked by unknown cybercriminals.

South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Agency confirmed the attempts to hack into Daewoo’s database. Still, it declined to say whether the attempts were successful or who was behind the attack.

The company reported the incident to the police, and law enforcement officials began investigating the incident in conjunction with military agencies.

A spokesman for the agency also denied news reports that North Korean hackers allegedly hacked into Daewoo Shipbuilding’s computer systems last year and stole some designs, including data on a nuclear submarine.

Recall that South Korea reported several cyberattacks on its infrastructure and scientific facilities in June. Earlier, the South Korean Atomic Institute was hacked.
