Razer, a company that makes devices for gamers, has announced a partnership with ClearBot, a startup dedicated to developing tools to collect waste in marine and ocean waters. The partnership will take place as part of Razer’s 10-year plan, in which the company supports startups that address environmental issues.

ClearBot is developing robotic devices that use artificial intelligence algorithms to identify and collect different types of plastic waste in marine waters.

Through the partnership, Razer engineers and designers helped ClearBot’s development into a fully scalable, mass-market-ready product. In addition, they worked together to improve the prototype device, making it more efficient.

The end result is a fully automated floating robot that uses advanced artificial intelligence algorithms and machine learning technology. It can detect and identify plastic debris in the water within two meters of itself.

In a single work cycle, the robot can collect up to 250 kg of plastic debris, operating on solar power. The marine scavenger robot project presentation was timed to coincide with World Oceans Day, which is June 8.

“We are very excited to be working with a startup focused on environmental conservation. ClearBot’s unique artificial intelligence and advanced machine learning technology will enable governments and organizations worldwide to expand efforts to clean up ocean waters. We encourage other innovative startups to contact Razer for possible collaboration as we strive to make the world a safer place for future generations,” said Patricia Liu, Razer’s head of human resources.
