Samsung Unveiled the Odyssey 2021 Line of Gaming Monitors
Samsung has unveiled its Odyssey 2021 series of gaming monitors. However, the key feature of the models seems to be the flat panels, or rather the lack of curved panels, as in the 2020 series.
The new series includes three models: the G70A, G50A and G30A.
G70A is the top model with a 28-inch IPS display with a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels and a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz. In addition, the panel has a peak brightness of 400 nits, the standard brightness is 300 nits, and it supports the VESA DisplayHDR 400 standard. The G70A also supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and is Nvidia G-SYNC compliant.
The G70A comes with one DisplayPort 1.4 port and two HDMI 2.1 ports to support this combination of high resolution and high refresh rate. The latter will allow you to connect the latest generation of consoles, such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, which require HDMI 2.1 to output 4K 120Hz. The Auto Source Switch+ feature allows the monitor to automatically turn on and switch to the correct source when the connected device is turned on.
Next up is the G50A. This model features a 27-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels and refresh rates up to 165 Hz. The monitor supports HDR10 and has a standard brightness of 350 nits. It also supports FreeSync Premium and has G-SYNC compatibility certification. One DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 are provided for connectivity.
The G70A and G50A support additional features such as picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture, low-latency input mode, Super Arena Gaming UX, ultra-wide gaming view and CoreSync backlighting. Both monitors also have a gray shift response time (GTG) of 1ms.
And finally, the third model in the G30A lineup. It comes in two sizes, 27 inches and 24 inches. In either size, the monitor has a VA display with 1920x1080 resolution and refresh rates up to 144 Hz. There’s no HDR support, and the maximum brightness is about 250 nits. The G30A supports FreeSync Premium, but has no G-SYNC compatibility certification from Nvidia. The port selection is limited to one DisplayPort 1.2 and one HDMI 1.4.
All three monitors come in black and feature a height-adjustable stand with tilt, swivel and swivel capabilities.
Samsung has not yet announced pricing or availability of these models.
