There is no consensus on what the aviation industry will be like after the COVID-19 crisis ends. However, at the online conference "Overcoming COVID-19 for the Transportation Industry," experts in the aviation sector gave their predictions on the development of the situation.

"Different states plan to help airlines in different ways. But in general, the idea is the same - deal with your finances yourself, if there is no money at all - then turn to the government. But you have to understand that this is not a short-term event. In the end, the crisis will lead to less competition. And the recovery of passenger traffic won't happen soon, you shouldn't think about this summer, most likely the airline industry will start to revive only in 2021.

It will probably be years before the market fully recovers. Not so long ago, all the airlines wanted was cheap fuel and plenty of available airplanes. Now there are both, but no passengers. I think planes will only get cheaper after the crisis. Demand will recover slowly, I think there will be a renegotiation of leasing agreements. Even today a 10-year-old airplane now costs the same as a 22-year-old. Soon the structure of the fleet will change dramatically, old planes will not be needed, "- said his opinion researcher and consultant on the aviation industry Chris Tarry.

According to him, even despite the resumption of traffic in China, according to calculations, in June 2020, passenger traffic in the PRC will be at least 40% lower than in June 2019. And fully demand for passenger air travel around the world will not recover even in 2022-2023.
