Windows Will Have An Accelerated Game Download Feature
The updated Windows operating system will feature an accelerated game download.
This is reported by the publication TechSpot, citing representatives from Microsoft, who told us that on Windows computers will appear feature DirectStorage. This option, created initially for the Xbox Series X / S consoles, is designed to accelerate data transfer from SSD drives.
That said, it was previously known that DirectStorage only works with PCIe 4.0 NVMe, but Microsoft has decided to include support for PCIe 3.0 NVMe.
The active option allows for optimized communication between the SSD and the GPU. In this case, the performance and speed of games will increase. It does not work with SATA DirectStorage drives because this interface is too slow.
Experts explained that the graphics card and the drive process each I/O request in sequence.
With the new technology, packets will be processed in parallel. Also, the material specifies that with DirectStorage, games will be displayed more smoothly on the monitor screen.
When the new feature is available on Windows computers, it is not reported. Experts said that it is easier to support the technology on the Xbox, because the console works with selected components. In the case of the PC, when there are many configurations of SSD drives and graphics cards, there may be difficulties.
